Vuzix and metaio tie up over delivery of AR solutions

Vuzix Metaio Logos Put together a manufacturer famous for engineering video eye-wear and an AR software developing company and this is what happens. Vuzix and metaio have decided to join hands over head mounted display (HMD) solutions. The upshot is that the market will see products which leverage the former’s line of AR-enabled video eye-wear and the latter’s AR software capabilities.

The agreement is built on a non-exclusive basis and both parties will work at helping customers to develop and deliver such solutions. Apparently, there’s a niche in the market for integrated hands-free HMD products for applications like marketing, advertising, assembly and maintenance. Additionally, on-site and on the factory floor problem solving, entertainment, training and education fields also demand such offerings.

“Both metaio and Vuzix are leaders in and at the forefront of AR markets with highly complementary offerings,” remarked Paul Travers, President of Vuzix. “With Vuzix providing its award winning Video Eyewear products and engineering services and metaio providing its leading software platforms and software engineering capability, we believe that together we can better address this rapidly emerging market need.”

“Our company has provided AR software for over 8 years and Vuzix is the first company to deliver a complete line of AR-enabled Video Eyewear, which includes both digital and optical see-through glasses that are high resolution and easy to wear. These are essential features for our customers. We believe that with Vuzix, we will finally be able to satisfy the needs of our many customers and partners for a hands-free solution,” cited Roman Hasenbeck, Director Business Development, metaio.

As part of the deal, both companies with join each other’s Premier Developer Partner network. This means that metaio and Vuzix can exchange notes, previews and advance release products for ensuring smooth integration on future launches. As of now, metaio’s Unifeye software suite is compatible with Vuzix’s latest software development kit.

Vuzix will be present at metaio’s InsideAR 2011 Fair that’s scheduled for September 26 to 27, 2011 in Munich, Germany.
