The novel WD media player simplifies the task of playing HD videos on HDTVs. Users can now play content stored on USB and network drives, as well as Internet content from popular Web sites. Finding its roots on the WD TV HD media player, the WD TV Live HD media player boasts of a new and more responsive interface. Thanks to the network capability of the WD TV Live media player, users can now stream or transfer movies from PC or Mac computers or a network-attached storage device like WD’s My Book World Edition and WD ShareSpace network drives to their HD TVs. Rich content from YouTube, Flickr and Pandora can also be streamed via the player. With the WD TV Live HD media player, users can move digital content from a computer to a big screen TV through simply plug-and-play.
The player connects directly to a users’ HDTV and has the ability to play virtually any file stored on a connected USB drive like My Passport portable drive. It also includes powerful media processing that allows playback in full-HD 1080p resolution through the included remote control. With crisp, animated navigation menus, the player supports a wide variety of file formats eliminating the need for transcoding.

It is equipped with an Ethernet port for wired or Wi-Fi connection to access files anywhere on the network. Users can play movies, music, and photos from any PC or drive on a home network while also being able to transform a USB drive into an HD media player. Content can be played from mass storage device-enabled devices like popular USB drives, and digital cameras, camcorders, and portable media players.
Offering unlimited media collection, users are simply required to add more USB drives for more space. The player also bundles in two USB ports for seamless media playback from multiple USB drives. While a media library feature collects the content on all the drives into one list sorted by media type, these can be accessed simultaneously. With the on-screen menus, users can transport files by copying, moving or deleting files on a USB drive, a network drive, camcorder, or a camera to the attached USB drive.
The media player also sports a Picture Transfer Protocol support that exhibits photos and movies directly from digital camera or video camera and or any digital imaging device that is enabled for the protocol. The device includes advanced navigation options like thumbnail and list views along with media library and search. Other features include photo viewing for creation of custom slide shows, zoom and pan and search; movie viewing with fast-forward, rewind, pause, zoom and pan, view subtitles, and search and music playback with fast-forward, rewind, pause, shuffle, repeat and search.
Allowing file copying between USB devices, the player also includes an HDMI 1.3 port, composite video and component video output for high quality HDTV or home theater. Providing a great surround sound experience, the player also bundles in the SPDIF digital output that sends digital signals to the users’ AV receiver. Adding to the features of the media player is its super-compact form factor that allows it to effortlessly blend into a home entertainment center.
