Firefox LogoThe much anticipated Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 is now available for download. This development will deliver new features to Firefox users along with easier, faster and secured internet access.

Not only its features but also the look of the browser has been changed. Firefox will now be available in a new interface, based on user feedback.

Some of the other features introduced in Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 are:

Fixes and improvements to platform features to improve security, web compatibility and stability.

Continued performance improvements: Changes to our JavaScript engine as well as profile guided optimization continues to improve performance over previous releases as measured by the popular SunSpider test from Apple, and in the speed of web applications like Google Mail and Zoho Office.

Moreover, the Firefox 3 Release Candidate 1 is available in more than 45 languages.

Speed, memory use and reliability are some of the improved attributes. Applications like Google Mail and Zoho Office are claimed to run at a double speed of what Firefox 2 ran at. Moreover, Mozilla says that a new memory allocator reduces fragmentation, hundreds of leaks have been fixed and caching strategies have been tuned.

The reliability of the browser is increased, thanks to a transactionally secure database format. Bookmarks, history, cookies and preferences are now stored in this transactionally secure database format, which will prevent data loss even if the system crashes.
