Facebook wants to let you know what happened ‘On This Day’

You’ve seen ‘This day in history’ columns in newspapers and other places, but Facebook’s new ‘On This Day’ feature wants to apply the same concept to your life. It is meant to give you a glimpse of photos and other memories from past years to fill you up with some nostalgia.

‘On This Day’ has been described by the social networking website as a new way to look back at things that you have shared and posts which you’ve been tagged in. Facebook has made it clear that only you will be shown this page, unless of course you decide to share it with your friends.

This new addition is apparently the result of feedback which the company has received from people who enjoy products and features that make looking back at old photos and other memories an easy task. ‘On This Day’ is meant to show you content from this date in the past; be it a status update, a photographs, an entire album, posts from friends and other things from one year ago, two years ago, and so on.

There are three ways in which you can access this new Facebook feature for the first time. You can click on a special bookmark, search for ‘On This Day’ or directly visit facebook.com/onthisday. You might even find someone else’s shared post on your News Feed, which will take you to the feature.

Once you have reached the ‘On This Day’ page you can choose to subscribe to notifications, edit and delete old posts and more. The rollout of this new Facebook attribute has seemingly begun, but it still hasn’t made its way into India.
