Facebook starts offering ‘Donate Now’ button to pages and link of nonprofits

‘Donate Now’ is a new button that you may see on Facebook pages or link ads of nonprofit organizations. This feature has been aimed at letting these institutions easily gain a connect with those who care enough for their causes to donate.

But it’s not as convenient as it sounds, unfortunately. Clicking on such a Facebook button doesn’t allow you to directly contribute an amount to the nonprofit’s cause. It instead sends to you to their official website where you can make the donation manually.

Facebook takes enough care to distance itself from the organization in question by flashing the message ‘Not endorsed by or affiliated with Facebook’ before redirecting you to their official page. The ALS Association page is one place where you can see how the ‘Donate Now’ button works right now.

This feature is radically different from the actual ‘Donate’ button which the social networking giant had rolled out back in 2013 for select organizations like the WWF and the American Cancer Society. This one allowed you to make your payments by entering your card details on Facebook itself.

The new ‘Donate Now’ button is actually a call-to-action prompt which can be set through the regular methods by those interested in using it. All those who wish to use it in their link ads can do so it by following the instructions on this link. As for those who want to add a button to their Pages, they can follow this link.

The Facebook button seems to be live now for only few pages, with one of them being that of The ALS Association, as mentioned in the space above.
