‘The Social Network’ has taken its music services a step further by launching the all new Facebook Listen With button. Drawing the name ‘Turntable.fm’ in the same breath by and large, this introduction will now allow users to groove to the same beats that friends are tapping their feet to.
So here’s how it works – if a friend is currently listening to music through services like the Spotify app, a music note should be visible in the chat sidebar. To get in on the action, simply hovering the mouse over the person’s name and clicking on the Facebook Listen With button should do the job. The official Facebook blog states that users can listen to the same tracks which are being played by their buddies in real time.
“Today, with music services on Facebook, there’s a new way to listen with friends. This feature lets you listen along with any of your friends who are currently listening to music. You can also listen together in a group while one of your friends plays DJ,” stated Alexandre Roche, Product Designer at Facebook. “You can listen to the same song, at the exact same time—so when your favorite vocal part comes in you can experience it together, just like when you’re jamming out at a performance or dance club.”
The Facebook Help Center also had a few inputs on this newly launched feature. Apparently, only friends with whom listening activities have been share are likely to know when a user is sharing tracks with others. On installing any music service, privacy settings from within the application can be modified as per the requirements and previously played songs may be wiped off from the timeline as well.
The Facebook Listen With button is expected to start rolling out over the next few weeks.
