Dell unveils Wireless 5700 Mobile Broadband (CDMA EVDO) ExpressCard, the First of its kinds

Dell Wireless 5700 Mobile Broadband ExpressCard Dell has launched its latest Dell Wireless 5700 Mobile Broadband (CDMA EVDO) ExpressCard created by Novatel Wireless. This new introduction allows broadband connectivity on most Dell notebook computers through Verizon Wireless’s BroadbandAccess service.

According to Dell, it is the first major notebook dealer to offer as ExpressCard solution for mobile broadband connectivity, something that is the need of the day for most notebook customers.

The new mobile broadband ExpressCard supports the Evolution-Data Optimized (EV DO) wireless technology, allowing high-speed connectivity to the internet applying Verizon Wireless’s network. Mobile broadband connectivity enables more flexibility and productivity. Users can connect without needing a Wi-Fi hotspot, and easy, anywhere connectivity means less downtime.

The Dell Wireless 5700 is rated for 2.4Mbps downloads and is backwards compatible with CDMA 1x networks.

For a limited time, Dell customers who purchase the Dell Wireless 5700 ExpressCard can try Verizon Wireless’s BroadbandAccess free for 30 days.

ExpressCard technology is a standard created by a broad coalition of PCMCIA trade association members, including Dell. The ExpressCard standard helps deliver thinner, faster and lighter modular expansion for notebook computer users.

All new Dell Inspiron and XPS notebooks and select Latitude notebooks and Dell Precision Mobile workstations include ExpressCard slots. Users can order an adapter that facilitates using the Dell Wireless 5700 ExpressCard on notebook computers designed with a PC Card slot.

The cards will be available from Dell’s website later this week for $179. That price includes a free month of wireless service — afterwards, service will be $59.99 per month for those with Verizon phone service or $69.99 for those without.
