BSNL Triple Play Services to launch in India by 2008

BSNL Logo BSNL, a government owned telecom service in India has announced their plans to launch Triple Play services to their customers. They said that this service would reach end users by January 2008.

The newly announced Triple Play package will offer three facilities. Triple Play customers will get a landline, broadband connection as well as IPTV services via a single cable.

It was also revealed that customers would be able to convert their existing landline/broadband connections to Triple Play from BSNL.

Sunil Parihar, Principal General Manager, Lucknow circle, BSNL, commented by saying, “We are looking for a manufacturer or supplier who can supply set-top boxes to us at a reasonable price. However, if a consumer wants to install his own set-top box, he can do so and we will charge rental of Rs. 200 per month for the cable TV service. If we provide the box, there will be an additional monthly rental of Rs.100. We hope to start the service by January next year.”
