Blu Products is back with an all new smartphone for the budget-minded which falls in the Studio series dubbed 5.5. The handset is the largest phone in the range carrying a 5.5-inch display and it delivers a decent set of specifications at just $179.
The Studio 5.5 sports an LCD panel on the front that proffers FWVGA visuals (480 x 854 pixels). It measures 157mm x 79.5mm x 9.5mm in dimensions and weighs 184 grams. Android Jelly Bean 4.2 runs the show here and the company notes that the handset will deliver a pure stock experience with updates being provided over the air. The smartphone is being offered unlocked enabling users to connect it with any 2G GSM or 3G HSPA+ 42Mbps network of their choice.
Additionally, it has dual SIM support. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS and Bluetooth 4.0. The Blu Studio 5.5 is deployed with 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot and a 2250mAh Li-ion battery. There’s also a 5MP rear camera which can be used to record videos in 1080p FHD.
Where the processor is concerned, there seems to be a mix up as the presser states that the device has a quad core 1.2GHz MediaTek MT6589 which is based on the Cortex A7 with PowerVR SGX544 graphics, while the product page notes the existence of a quad core Snapdragon processor which is likely from the 200 series. Nevertheless, the performance of both SOCs is almost the same.
The Blu Studio 5.5 is available in the US through Amazon and Best Buy and it’s soon to launch in 30 other locations including Brazil and Mexico. The device can be picked up in color options of slate grey, cyan blue, neon yellow, fashion fuchsia and ceramic white.
