You don’t have to burn as much as expected on the BlackBerry Priv since it’s officially up for pre-order at $699. About a week ago, Carphone Warehouse started accepting bookings for the phone at £579 in the UK. That could’ve meant plonking down above $800 for it in North America!
Thankfully, this is not the case for the US. Fans in Canada will have to scrape together $899 CDN for the BlackBerry Priv, on the other hand. We still don’t know how much it’ll sell for in India though. The release date of the smartphone is set for November 6.
The Priv (pronounced like ‘give’) is famously BlackBerry’s first ever Android handset. It’s also the Canadian company’s only device to come with a curved screen. It retains the QWERTY keyboard that’s the trademark of the struggling brand, in a slide-out form factor.
As reported before, the keypad is of the capacitive type and serves as a touchpad too. Moreover, it enables users to auto-complete words with a simple swipe. Although the smartphone boasts of high-end specs, it will roll out with Android Lollipop and not Marshmallow, at launch.
One of the highlighted aspects of the BlackBerry Priv is its set of privacy features. These include the DTEK warning warning system app, picture password login, WatchDox private file sharing, BBM, SecuSUITE voice calling as well as cryptographically signed and verified hardware.
