BlackBerry has unleashed its Android-powered Priv smartphone in India, amid hopes it will prove to be the catalyst which will change the beleaguered company’s fortunes. The brand has priced it at a whopping Rs 62990 (as much as the new iPhone). Meanwhile imported units of the handset are selling for much lower on eBay India.
The BlackBerry Priv will be up for purchase via Amazon India and offline outlets starting from January 30. First announced in October last year, the smartphone runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and flaunts a 5.4-inch dual-curved QHD display protected by Gorilla Glass 4. There’s a physical keyboard hidden underneath it with touch-sensitive keys.
BlackBerry has equipped the new handset with privacy tools such as DTEK to make sure personal data is encrypted and safe from malware attacks. Consumers will also be able to keep an eye on the information apps are allowed to access and the overall security rating of the smartphone.
