BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 is now rolling out with Android support and a lot more

The much awaited BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 update has just been released by the Canadian company for those BB 10 handsets which don’t have it yet. The list includes the Passport, Z30, Z3, Z10, Q10 and Q5 smartphones as well as the Porsche Design P’9983 and P’9982 luxury devices.

Prime among the new additions to the software is the BlackBerry Assistant which acts like Apple’s Siri and responds to voice and text commands. This update moreover, also brings with it support for Android apps. Although there’s no Google Play store to take advantage of, the company has indeed given access to the Amazon Appstore.

And then there’s BlackBerry Blend which avoids distractions during work by mirroring your phone’s notifications on your PCs. With it, you can read and respond to your emails, text messages and even BBM chats. And that’s not all; the new Blend feature even provides you with access to the documents, calendar, contacts and media from your phone in real time.

BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 also brings with it a host of enhancements to BB Hub, a few keyboard shortcuts, battery improvements, new camera features and more. Visual changes being introduced by the software include updated icons and an instant action bar.

The BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 comes pre-installed on the recently release Classic handset, while another newbie, the Passport grabs a slightly older version of it which is why this phone too is in the list of devices that are getting the new update. The software is currently being rolled out in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific.

Devices compatible with BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 will receive a notification in their Hub section which will direct you towards the available download.
