The BlackBerry 10.2 OS update you’ve been waiting for is almost here

All you brave folks still hanging on to a BlackBerry phone for dear life, you will be able to download the BlackBerry 10.2 OS update starting from this week. The upgrade comes with more than half a dozen changes that will undoubtedly offer some very handy improvements to the overall user experience on BB 10 phones.

The software will be downloadable for those with Z30, Q5, Q10 and Z10 handsets since these are the only ones running the OS at present. Regions falling under Africa, Canada, Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East will be welcoming it very soon.

Notifications on lock screen:

Users won’t need to unlock their phone to check out texts, mails or other notifications since these will appear right on the lock screen.

Intelligent sharing assistance:

We can think of many ways this can go wrong if you carelessly accept suggestions from your handset about how and with whom you could share files and other stuff.

Reply Now:

There’s a new Reply Now function which will let people send a personalized or automated BBM, email or text response to a phone call they can’t pick up for whatever reason.

Natural Sound for BBM Video:

Want to feel like you’re conversing directly with a person when on a BBM Voice or Video date? Let’s keep this between BB 10 phones, said BlackBerry and that’s how it sits.

Instant previews of incoming messages/mails:

Multi-tasking is the key here. With the software upgrade, BBM, SMS and mail messages will pop into view no matter which application you’re actually using each time a notification streams in.

There are a host of other smaller improvements too. Those in the US and Latin America will just have to wait their turn. Vague mentions of ‘this winter’ and ‘in November,’ respectively are the launch schedules BlackBerry has in mind for these areas. Now cross your fingers and hope your carrier gives the nod to the update or you’re not going to get it.
