Best Phones Under Rs 30000

Rs 30000 is a princely budget for a mobile phone these days thanks to the cutthroat competition in the smartphone market in India. Thank god for Chinese brands that got the wheels turning. Some of the best mobile phones under Rs 30000 in India are actually the top options in the higher end category anyway. So even though you think a lot of them are in the mid-range category, they’re worth every penny and more.

Since Google’s mobile OS is at the heart of the mobile phone revolution, you’d think a good phone running Android is the only way to go when looking for pocket-friendly products, right? But trust us, you don’t even have to restrict yourself to Android just because you want a somewhat inexpensive phone. Every big brand company from Samsung to HTC to LG to Apple to Microsoft to Motorola has something to offer in the Rs 15000 to Rs 30000 range.

Some of the smartphone options we’ve jotted down aren’t brand new. But their features still render them competent in the current scenario. Take for example the older iPhones which are selling at lower rates in the Indian market presently. Although you can say that their specs aren’t top-end, Apple phones still perform very smoothly without any hitches.

iOS smartphones are more future-proof than Android loyalists are generally willing to admit. Of course, a lot of Android phones from reputed brands are also equally competent. Without further ado, here’s a list of the best phones below Rs 30000 that you can buy in India.

LG Nexus 5X:

Nexus 5X

This year’s poster child for a mid-range stock Android phone commissioned by Google is the LG Nexus 5X, of course. Its 16GB capacity in black or blue is available for purchase at a little below Rs 29000 through Amazon India and Flipkart (no exchange offer currently). You might be able to wangle a bigger discount by trading in your old device at a retail outlet.

The handset has a 5.2-inch 1080p full HD display, Android 6.0 Marshmallow and a 1.8GHz hexa core Snapdragon 808 processor coupled with Adreno 418 graphics. It features 2GB RAM, a 12.3MP main camera, a 5MP webcam, a fingerprint sensor and a 2700mAh battery. Its best aspect is its plain old version of Google’s OS, free of tricks and gimmicks. You hear us, Samsung?

Apple iPhone 5S:

iPhone 5S

Motorola and Samsung played the fingerprint game before Apple. But the latter took things to a higher level. Thus we welcomed the iPhone 5S with Touch ID integrated into iOS to do more than just unlock the device. Considering that 2011’s iPhone 4S was seen besting newer affordable Android options earlier this year, the 5S from 2013 is a worthy addition to our list.

Amazon, Flipkart, Snapdeal and eBay are presently vending the 16GB iPhone 5S for Rs 25000 to Rs 30000, depending on the color and e-commerce seller you pick. Upgradeable to iOS 9, the handset boasts of a 4-inch 640 x 1136p screen, a lag-free interface, one of the smartphone industry’s best 8MP cameras, the dual core Apple A7 CPU, 1GB RAM and a 1560mAh battery.

Motorola Moto X Style:

Moto X Style

If Motorola is your prefered flavor, then the Moto X Style is perfect for you. It costs Rs 29999 for 16GB memory and is one of the best phones under Rs 30000 in India, in case you’re one of those folks who store a lot of content on their device. Unlike the aforementioned Apple and LG options, it has a microSD card slot for enabling up to 128GB of extra hoarding space.

Its key specifications cover a 5.7-inch 1440 x 2560p display, a 1.8GHz hexa core Snapdragon 808 chipset, Android 5.1 Lollipop (upgreadable to Marshmallow), a 21MP rear camera, a 5MP secondary lens, 3GB RAM and a 3000mAh battery. You might also want to consider the Moto X Play which comes for roughly Rs 19000 with similar features, but 2GB RAM and a Snapdragon 615 SoC.

Samsung Galaxy S5:

Samsung Galaxy S5

Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S5 (16GB capacity) is being offered for about Rs 22000 on Flipkart. If you can stretch your budget up to Rs 34500, then the newer Galaxy S6 is up for the taking too. Let’s say you prefer spending less on a spanking Android phone, the S5 is not a bad choice anyway, barring its lack of a metal and glass finish for a 2014 Samsung flagship.

Having been launched with KitKat originally, the Galaxy S5 is rumored to be lined up for an update to Marshmallow. Its main talking points encompass a 5.1-inch full HD Super AMOLED touchscreen, a smooth interface, an Exynos 5 Octa processor (Indian version), 2GB RAM, 128GB expandability, a 16MP main camera, a 2MP webcam, a 2800mAh battery and Samsung bloatware.

LG G3:

Now we’re not big fans of LG’s efforts to enter the ‘Revolutionary Button Placement Hall of Fame’ with its unusual aesthetic choices, but you can’t deny that the G3 from 2014 is a great example of a flagship. And even more so if you’re on a budget of Rs 30000 or less. It is pegged between Rs 27000 and Rs 28000 for 32GB, depending on from where you buy it.

The LG G3’s back panel is made partially out of metal, though you can’t tell by looking at it. The smartphone will be treated to Marshmallow soon. It sports a 5.5-inch, 1440 x 2560p QHD screen, a 2.5GHz quad core Snapdragon 801 CPU, 3GB RAM, (32GB version), 128GB microSD card support, a 13MP rear snapper, a 2.1MP front camera and a 3000mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy A8:

For those of you with some wiggle room on how much you’re willing to pay for a new phone, the full metal Samsung Galaxy A8 that was unveiled in 2015 can be grabbed for a little higher than Rs 30000 online (Rs 30483 being the lowest price displayed for it on Flipkart). Like the Moto X Style, it has a generous display of 5.7 inches, though only of 1920 × 1080p resolution.

The handset was released with Android Lollipop inside, but an upgrade to Marshmallow is incoming. Ignore Samsung’s irritating habit of customizing all its devices with TouchWiz and you have a pretty good gadget in your hands. It flaunts 2GB RAM, a 3050mAh battery, dual SIM slots, an octa core Exynos 5430 chip, 128GB expandability, and 16GB and 5MP cameras.

Nokia Lumia 930:

How could we leave out crowd-favorite Nokia from this list of the top phones in India under Rs 30000? Rolled out in 2014, Microsoft’s Nokia Lumia 930 sells for approximately Rs 29000 on Flipkart. Although its appearance leaves much to be desired, it’s one of the best Windows Phone offerings to date, showing off a bunch of decent specifications for fans craving a Lumia flagship.

It sports a 2.2GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor, 1080p full HD 5-inch ClearBlack OLED, 2GB RAM, 32GB ROM (sadly, no memory expansion option), a 20MP main camera (HDR lacking), a 2.1MP front lens and an option to upgrade to Windows 10. That being said, the Lumia 930 does fall short in the battery department with its 2420mAh powerhouse.

HTC One E9 Plus:

HTC One E9 Plus

For Rs 30505, Flipkart is willing to sell you the HTC One E9 Plus which was released into the market this year. Admittedly, its 20MP rear camera could be better. But otherwise, it makes an impression with its 5.5-inch 2K IPS LCD touchscreen, 4MP UltraPixel webcam, 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, and 128GB expandability. Pity about its MediaTek processor though.

Those searching for an even cheaper option by HTC or at least, one with a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, can go for the Desire 826. It’s out in India for Rs 22000 or less and boasts of a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080p panel, an octa core 1.5GHz Snapdragon 615 chipset, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, 128GB expandability, a 13MP rear camera, an UltraPixel webcam and a 2600mAh battery.

Except for the Desire 826, the rest of the handsets we’ve picked out as the best smartphones under Rs 30000, come with Corning Gorilla Glass protection. We’ll keep updating this list as new devices become available.
