$75 iPhone unlocks being handed out by Bell and Virgin Mobile

iPhone 5 Black

Those wanting to unlock their iPhone purchased from Bell and Virgin Mobile can now do so as both carriers are now offering the same, that’s provided users cough up a $75 onetime payment. Doing so will eliminate all network restrictions, allowing them to utilize the device with any service provider they prefer.

MobileSyrup states that the unlock is initially being made available in a phased approach. To obtain it, users will have to contact the Credit & Prevention department from Bell or Virgin Care based on the network they’ve signed up with, for further details. Additionally, there’s also a list of requirements that owners have to meet in order to unchain their handset from the carriers’ clutches. First and foremost, the phone must be owned by the person seeking an unlock. That means on-contract devices aren’t eligible as yet. Customers should also have a post-paid connection with either of the 2 providers. And lastly, the onetime payment needs to be done by means of a credit card only.

The report also goes on to state that the eligibility guidelines are likely to be further expanded during 2013. These details come courtesy of a leaked internal document from Virgin which can be seen in the image below. In recent news, AT&T started selling refurbished iPhone 5 units in the US starting at $99.99. Both white and black color options are available and buyers can even choose between 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage options. The price for the latter two variants is pegged at $249.99 and 349.99, respectively. The unlocked versions are still to be launched by Apple, although their cost details did leak out a couple of months back.
