BBM Channels released for BlackBerry smartphones, Android and iPhone have to wait

BBM Channels has been in beta for months. It’s finally ready to come out and play as long as you have a BlackBerry 10 or BlackBerry OS smartphone. For those of you who haven’t heard of it before, the feature that can be found within BBM lets users create a page on any subject of interest and allow others to follow it. So it can be anything from a brand page or simply a sort of bulletin board which can be updated with news on a particular topic (say, a channel about Dr. Who).

Those following the page will be notified when anything new is posted to it and when one of their comments has got a reply or has been ‘liked.’ There’s even an option to chat with the channel administrator, or owner in other words, if they’re open to it. Audiences can also invite friends who are BBM contacts to join such a hub.

Looking for channels that may interest you is as simple as launching BBM and opening this feature. It will display a collection of pages and posts you could find engaging enough to follow. Starting a channel is just as easy and includes options to allow subscribers to chat with you, fix chat hours, allow comments and so on.

Administrators can manage their page through their handset or the browser-based BBM Channels Manager console. The video we’ve posted above will tell you more. While BBM Channels is not out for Android or iPhone yet, you can create a channel anyway.
