The Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet and Nook Color are now available at a revised price starting from $159 and $139, respectively. According to Jamie Iannone, the company’s President of Digital Products, the cost reduction has been carried out just in time for the holidays, making the devices an ideal gift for avid readers.
The Nook Color is not only an eReader, but also a full-fledged tablet. Where specifications matter, it packs in an 800MHz TI processor and 512MB RAM. The front is equipped with a 7-inch VividView IPS touchscreen that has a pixel density of 169ppi and a resolution of 1024 X 600p. Owing to the microSD card slot, users will be able to expand the storage up to 32GB for hoarding songs, videos and documents. The battery life here is pegged at approximately 8 hours of reading. In terms of dimensions, the device measures 8.1 x 5 x 0.48 inches and weighs not more than 15.8 ounces.
Apart from reading, users can keep themselves entertained through other digital media. The device is compatible with a host of applications such as Angry Birds, Scrabble, Taptu, MyCast Weather, Epicurious, Drawing Pad, Crosswords, Chess, Pandora, Rhapsody, MOG and Grooveshark amongst others. What’s more, owners will be able to access the web and check emails through the built-in browser and Wi-Fi support. The latest features incorporated into the device include Netflix compatibility and Nook Comics.
The Nook Tablet can do everything the aforementioned device is capable of and much more. It arrives with a beefier processor, a dual core 1GHz TI OMAP4 SOC, and options of 512MB or 1GB of RAM. This slate carries the same dimensions as the Color and it’s also equipped with a microSD card slot. Visuals are delivered through a 7-inch VividView IPS panel and users can expect 11.5 hours of reading or 9 hours of video playback on a single charge.
The Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet is now available for purchase at $159 for the 8GB version, while the 16GB option can be picked up for $179. The Nook Color is up for grabs at a cost of $139 after the reduction. Both devices can be found at the company’s stores, college bookstores, online and from leading retailers in the US.
