Barnes & Noble is offering a free Nook Simple Touch with every Nook HD+ purchase, in a special limited period promotion. The e-ink reader has an 800 x 600 pixel display and 2GB of internal storage, and the offer amounts to a value of $79.
This free promotion is available at all of the company’s retail stores and College Bookstores across the US, as well as via its official website between March 24 and March 31, 2013. Other retailers such as Best Buy, Walmart.com and Target will only run the offer between March 24 and March 30, 2013.
The 16GB version of the Nook HD+ can be purchased for $269, while the 32GB internal storage variant sells for $299. The 9-inch tablet is capable of displaying images and video in full HD (1920 x 1080p) resolution and at 256ppi, and allows up to 6 profiles to be active, so that every member of the family can customize the device to their preference. Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth just add to its appeal.
It features a 1.5GHz OMAP4470 dual core processor as well as an improved multi-tab browser, and the company claims is can squeeze out about 10 hours of reading or up to 9 hours of video playback on a single charge. If the in-built storage options prove limited, the device can even accept a microSD card for more space to store videos, photos and books.
To that effect, it is compatible with a ton of e-book reader file formats, including PDF and ePUB, but gives DjVu a miss. Likewise, MP4 and 3GP video formats are supported with no love for the popular AVI or the out-of-favor MKV. And there is a 3.5mm audio jack so that watching movies on the slate drains the battery even slower.
The Touch e-ink reader can be chosen when needs are restricted to simply reading a novel and the like, since the device is lightweight and easier to handle. Jamie Iannone, President of Digital Products at Nook Media says it is comfortable to hold and displays crisp and clear text.
Remember, the availability of a free Barnes & Noble Nook Simple Touch worth $79, with the purchase of a Nook HD+ unit, only begins tomorrow but ends on March 31, at the latest. Among the portable 6-inch device’s accolades is a 2-month battery life, as per claims by the company.
