The Nokia Lumia 820 release date as well as on-contract price from AT&T have been revealed and the phone will be made available to pre-order from the US carrier today, November 7. And with the Samsung ATIV and the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 added recently, the network provider is busy ramping up its offering for the holiday season.
Weighing 160 grams, the Lumia 820 features a WVGA ClearBlack OLED display of 4.3 inches and a capacitive multipoint touch screen capable of throwing out images and video at a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Of the long list of the display panel’s attributes, sunlight readability enhancements, a proximity sensor and super sensitive touch stand out.
What the phone has hidden beneath its collected exterior is a 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, making sure everything – from applications to web surfing – is run smoothly. On-board storage of 1000MB is available to users, and this can be expanded using a microSD card of up to 64GB.
But the appeal of a smartphone is that it can do much more than a phone can. And this one has an 8MP main camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a high power dual LED flash, in addition to auto focus with a two-stage capture key. The secondary camera is far less powerful, only capable of capturing at a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels.
As might be expected from a Windows Phone 8 device, the Nokia device in question comes with Internet Explorer 10 and several preloaded apps. It also allows access to various email accounts and has dedicated call management features. The device comes with a 1,650mAh removable battery capable of delivering 14 hours and 8 hours of talk time, on 2G and 3G respectively.
The AT&T Nokia Lumia 820 is going up for pre-order today and is scheduled to launch on the carrier in question on November 9. It will be offered only in black and for a price of $50 when attached to a 2-year contract, whereas a no-contract deal will set customers back $400. Those interested in a 1-year agreement will be allowed to pick up the device for $300.
