AT&T and U.S. Cellular Samsung Galaxy S4 pre-orders begin, release date set

Samsung Galaxy S4

The latest from Samsung, the Galaxy S4, has received a release date on AT&T and U.S. Cellular and the flagship device can now be pre-ordered on the carriers, attached to lengthy agreements. Notification pages went up recently on both mobile network operators, but interested customers were not allowed to book at the time.

The device itself garnered a lot of attention when it was unveiled to the world in mid-March. It carries a 5-inch Super AMOLED display capable of full HD 1080p output and 441ppi. This will slot in as one of the highest resolution displays on the market, finding company with the 5.5-inch LG Optimus G Pro. In addition, it will have a 2,600mAh battery, although usage stats haven’t been provided.

There is a 1.9GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU taking care of operations and 2GB of RAM padded in for extra ‘smoothness.’ Internal storage options will include 16GB, 32GB and 64GB, although the last of these won’t be available right away. Memory expansion of up to 64GB is possible using a microSD card.

Wireless features include Bluetooth 4.0 and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, as well as NFC, GPS and an IR LED to turn the smartphone into a TV remote. It will run on the very latest Jelly Bean platform (version 4.2.2) and have a 13MP primary camera on the rear with a load of software attributes such as picture-in-picture mode. A 2MP webcam on the front appeases those who like to video conference.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 can be booked on AT&T and U.S. Cellular, and both carriers have the 16GB version of the device for $199.99 on a 2-year contract in white and black color options. While the former says it will be shipped on April 30, 2013, there is no word on the release date from the latter which gives a free S View cover slip with the pre-order.
