Asus Zenfone 2 goes stateside, will cost you $199 and up

Asus’ super affordable, yet attractive Zenfone 2 series has finally made the journey to the US and has also gone on sale. Prices start at $199 and for now, only two versions are being offers. Both come with 5.5-inch displays and Intel Atom processor.

The Asus Zenfone 2 series comprises of 3 main models. The ZE500CL is the entry-level option with a 5-inch 720p display, the ZE550ML offers a 5.5-inch HD panel, while the ZE551ML comes with even beefier hardware.

The last option is what you’ll be able to buy in the US. The cheapest model is tagged at $199 and it features a 1.8GHz quad core Intel Atom Z3560 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. And for an extra $100, you’ll be able to pick up the same Asus phone with a 2.3GHz Atom Z3580 chip, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory.

Apart from these components, everything else is more or less identical on the two Zenfone 2 ZE551ML handsets. The company has implemented a design akin to what you’d find on new LG phones where the volume keys are located to the rear just below the main camera.

Asus has loaded the new smartphones with Android 5.0 Lollipop and the latest Zen UI. The display here proffers FHD visuals and is accompanied by a 5MP selfie shooter. And on the rear, there’s a 13MP snapper with a dual tone LED flash.
