The wait for the Asus Zenfone 2 smartphone and its camera-centric Zoom model in India is still going to be a couple of months more as the company plans to bring the latest duo to the country sometime during April or May. This information was officially revealed by the OEM’s country head, Peter Chang, at a launch event in Delhi.
What’s interesting is that the details somewhat contradict what the company’s CEO, Jerry Shen, previously disclosed. In a interview, it was revealed that the Asus Zenfone 2 smartphone would be headed to India during Q2 2015 which is precisely what Whatsontech is reporting, but Shen said that it plans to launch a completely different lineup as successors to the current smartphones.
The new series will apparently be based on MediaTek processors and we expect to see Asus handsets of different sizes. However, there’s still a high possibility that the Intel versions might also be made available as a premium release. The Zenfone Zoom, on the other hand, is said to arrive a bit later during Q3 and the company also plans to bring most of the devices it launched at the CES 2015 to India.
Additionally, the new ZenBook lineup running Windows 8.1 will also be made available, while the ZenWatch which was supposed to go on sale in the country during Q1 has been delayed. We recently seen the 5-inch Zenfone 2 leak out and it looks to be a mere refresh to the previous series carrying the same specs, but a tweaked design to match that of the latest releases.
