Asus seems to have a new Ultrabook in the works, the VivoBook V551, which has showed up through multiple retailers and has even gone up for pre-order at a hefty price. The main highlight here is that the laptop is amongst the first to come with a fourth generation Intel processor which is dubbed as Haswell.
The guys over at Liliputing have managed to spot the Asus VivoBook V551 Ultrabook posted on a couple of retailers such as MacMall and Adorama. According to Notebook Italia, the device is also expected to go on sale in Europe, but with the S551 branding. The CPU incorporated here is the Core i7 4500U which operates at 1.80GHz. Being a top-tier chipset, it should come with HD 5000 integrated graphics.
Nevertheless, the Asus plans on providing a discrete-class GPU through a 2GB DDR3 GeForce GT 740M which is amongst the latest from Nvidia packing in support for DirectX 11 and 4K resolution. Under the lid, buyers will find a 15.6-inch GlareType LCD display with LED backlight. The panel supports 10-point touch input and offers HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels which is quite a disappointment. Storage needs are taken care of by a 1TB HDD and a 24GB SSD cache.
The overall construction is of aluminum. The VivoBook V551 measures 21mm thick and tips the scales at 2.4kg. An HD webcam is supplied for video calling and where connectivity is concerned, potential customers can expect to find HDMI output, USB 2.0 as well as 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 amongst others. In addition to these, there’s a DVD burner and a 65Whr battery to get things up and running.
The Asus VivoBook V551 Ultrabook is likely to go official along with a plethora of tablets and laptops powered by the latest processors from Intel at the Computex trade show which takes place in Taiwan next month. The notebook will carry a price of around $1,000 in US, albeit a release date hasn’t been pinpointed as yet.
