Asus’ new laptops challenge Apple MacBook, Microsoft Surface Pro

Asus ZenBook 3

Asus has refreshed its laptop lineup with the new ZenBook 3 and ZenBook Transformer 3 Pro, with each laptop targeted at different sectors. While the first is ideal for anyone looking for a lightweight Apple MacBook alternative, the second is being positioned as a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 rival.

Starting off with the ZenBook 3, Asus is calling the device the world’s most prestigious laptop. Carved out of an aluminum alloy and measuring just 11.9mm in thickness, the brand boasts that it’s lighter and 2 times faster than a MacBook. Buyers will be greeted with a 12.5-inch screen which has been toughened up with Gorilla Glass and a fingerprint reader that supports Windows Hello.

Specs-wise, the Asus notebook comes with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16G of RAM, a USB Type-C port and a quad-speaker setup by Harman Kardon. It can apparently last for 9 hours in a single charge and takes just 49 minutes to power up to 60% thanks to fast charging technology. The laptop is priced at $1499 for the 512GB SSD model and $1999 for the 1TB SSD one.

Asus ZenBook Transformer 3 Pro

The Transformer 3 and Transformer 3 Pro are considerably cheaper in comparison, with the former retailing for $799 and the latter at $999. The 2-in-1 devices are the brand’s answer to the Surface Pro 4. The two have plenty in common namely features like its 12.6-inch 1080 x 2880p display, support for the new Asus Pen and Harman Kardon speakers. However, the Pro version offers things like an integrated metal kickstand, 1TB of SSD storage and 16GB of RAM.
