We have a pretty good idea of what Apple is going to show off on September 12 at this point, but there are a few unusual leaks hinting at something different. One such report indicates that the Apple Watch Series 4 might adopt a circular design.
This is according to a new image uploaded on Slashleaks. The drawings depict a circle-shaped Apple Watch with a speaker on its display and a list of specs written beside it. These include Bluetooth, NFC support, Wi-Fi, and a 1.3-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels.
Apple Watch Series 4 Design
However, there’s nothing to indicate this is the Apple Watch. The only Apple connection is an iPhone sitting in one corner of the frame. The poster tries to argue that the circle looks just like the circle in Apple’s invite for its September 12 event.
Some folks did try to argue this point when the invite came out. Still, many agree that the ring looks more like the company’s spaceship Apple Park campus when viewed from the top. The biggest counterpoint to this leak is a render of the Apple Watch Series 4 which made its debut last week.
9to5Mac claimed it was the real deal, although the site didn’t explain where it came from. That photo indicated that the smartwatch is going to stick to a rectangular shape, just with thinner bezels. Most reports have echoed this view till date, so the likelihood of a circular Apple Watch is slim.
It’s always possible that Apple considered a round design but rejected it at some point along the way. We won’t know for sure until September 12 when all will be revealed. Major changes expected include a bigger battery, a better CPU + GPU combination, and new complications.
