Apple is confessing to two problems affecting the iPhone X and 13-inch non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro (2017). Not only is it acknowledging its mistakes in public, it’s also launched a free repair program for both.
Starting with the iPhone X, Apple’s support page says some units might experience touch issues because of a faulty component located on the display module. You may notice signs like your device’s display not responding or only occasionally responding to touch.
How To Repair Your iPhone X
The iPhone X’s screen could even behave as if it is being touched, even though you’re not in contact with it. Apple is promising to swap the display module in affected units for free. You can either go to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, set up an appointment at the Apple Store, or mail your unit to the Apple Repair Center.
Note that any damages which could impede the repair like a broken screen will have to be resolved before the process can begin. This might carry an extra cost, so keep your wallet ready. If you’ve already paid for a fix, tell Apple about it so they can give you a refund.
As for the 13-inch MacBook Pro, Apple has found that a limited number of laptops with 128GB and 256GB SSD drives have a particular problem which could result in data loss and failure of the drive itself. This is a serious issue and should be resolved as quickly as possible.

Affected MacBook Pro units were sold between June 2017 and June 2018. To find out if your device is compromised, go to the Apple menu on your computer and tap About This Mac. Your laptop’s name should be “MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports).” Copy the serial number and paste it on this page to see if your unit is eligible for the program.
If it is, make sure you back up your MacBook Pro since the repair procedure completely erases the drive. Once you do, an Apple technician will run a utility to update the firmware. You’ll get your laptop back with macOS re-installed, at which point you’ll have to restore it from the backup you just made.
