After its success with iPhone, Apple is all set to dominate the market this year with its much touted iPhone 3G and App Store. The second generation iPhone is now available in the stores. However this time, it is not only the Americans but also Apple enthusiasts in 21 other countries that will get to purchase the iPhone 3G.
The latest model of the iPhone features 3G networking capabilities and is apparently twice as fast as its predecessor. The phone also sports an built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs hundreds of third party applications are other features of the iPhone 3G.
The iPhone 2.0 software update includes enterprise support, contact search, complete iWork and MS Office document viewing support, the ability to delete or move emails in bulk, saving images from emails, a scientific calculator, parental controls and support for 16 additional languages.
On other hand the Apple App Store which will enable users to browse and download applications that were developed with the iPhone SDK. Depending on the application, users can purchase or download applications for free. Also App Store will send alerts to users when updates are available.
Currently App Store is offering more than 500 native applications developed by various companies in variety of segments including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel.
“iPhone represents a new software platform for developers, combining the most advanced mobile operating system, sophisticated developer tools and a breakthrough way for developers to wirelessly sell and distribute their applications right onto every iPhone,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The reaction from developers has been very, very positive and we’re opening the App Store with over 500 native iPhone applications available for immediate purchase and download.”
The iPhone 3G is available in the US market at the prices of $199 (8 GB) and $299 (16GB).
