Fans in the US, the UK, Japan, China, India and a handful of other select markets can pre-order the purple-colored iPhone starting from April 23. It’s set to reach shelves on April 30. Apart from the purple iPhones, Apple’s latest event saw the company launch a bunch of other products including a revamped iPad Pro and a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display-sporting iMac. Both embed Cupertino’s homegrown M1 chip.
Coming back to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, they can be picked up in 64GB, 128GB, or 256GB memory configurations starting at $829 ($799 with carrier discount) and $729 ($699 with carrier discount), respectively. Both devices boast of an A14 Bionic processor, a dual-camera set-up, a Super Retina XDR display, 5G support, and IP68-rated water and dust resistance.
Apple will be shipping these newly-minted iPhone 12 handsets with the latest iOS 14.5 software. One of the main talking points about this OS update is the ability for iPhone and Apple Watch owners to unlock their handset even while wearing a face mask; an essential feature, given the current pandemic situation.
Why the purple color, you ask? It’s meant to evoke spring, and remind you that a new iPhone series was rolled out not too long ago.
It’s been just about 6 months since the iPhone 12 lineup was introduced. The next major Apple event is expected in fall. It’s not clear whether the company plans to make bi-annual unveilings a regular thing in order to keep its products in the spotlight year-round.
