After months of guessing, Google has finally revealed which sweet confectionery gets the honor of being associated with its upcoming OS. Android N is now officially Android Nougat, disappointing fans of Nankhatai, Nachos, Neyyappam and Nutella all over the world.

Google announced the news via its Twitter page. To recall, the brand had tried to crowdsource the name for its next Android OS, asking people to come up with suggestions for it and submit them online. It hasn’t stated whether Nougat was the most popular moniker among the submissions or just something it decided to stick to on its own.

Android Nougat will officially be version 7.0 of the software, as confirmed by a YouTube video Google uploaded of its new Android mascot statue at its headquarters. Unfortunately, the company still hasn’t declared when exactly it’s coming out. It had previously said that it would release the OS later this summer.

The fourth and final version of the Android 7.0 Nougat developer preview came out early last month, allowing app companies to finalize their applications without any changes from Google’s end. The OS is bringing along a number of cool new additions like support for Daydream, the brand’s dedicated virtual reality platform to improve upon the current VR experience Android handsets offer.

Other notable tools set to be featured in Nougat include split-screen multitasking, better notifications, an improved Google Keyboard, and seamless updates to install upgrades in the background. The brand had also introduced a 3D Touch-like Launcher Shortcuts function but later decided to remove it.

We’ll keep you updated as and when more details about Android 7.0 Nougat emerge until its official launch.
