Amazon India starts stocking mobiles, cameras and other electronic gadgets

Amazon India

The Amazon India online retail store is growing fast, and it has now gone one step closer to the likes of Flipkart and Infibeam, for the company has decided to start selling electronic gadgets as well. The store made its debut in the country earlier this month, and through a press release today, Amazon has announced that products including mobiles and accessories, cameras and photography equipment as well as portable media players have been placed in its catalog.

Over 20,000 electronic products from more than 200 leading brands have made their way into the online retailer’s store. With this fresh introduction, there are now a total of six categories of products that can be browsed through on Amazon India. These include Books, Movies, TV shows, Kindle E-readers, ebooks and Kindle Fire tablets which have all been compressed into four departments.

The complete system of product descriptions, options for short-listing products by features, customer reviews and personalized recommendations has also been adopted by Amazon India for its site. A fulfillment approach has been adopted by the company for granting customers access to the large catalog of the new products.

This means that while the e-retailer itself will be taking care of some of the orders, a certain number of products will have their orders fulfilled by other companies. Included among them are over 150 electronics retailers such as Croma, Vijay Sales, UniverCell, Saholic and J.J. Mehta & Sons. Cahs on Delivery is a popular option that’s presented by most online retailers in the country, and Amazon India too has embraced this choice for most of its products.

Following its launch in the country this month, the company was quick to bring its range of reader-focused tablets into the nation. And now, even as it plunges into the electronics business, there’s definitely more that we can expect from Amazon India in the future.
