Airtel and HTC entwine to deliver the HTC Magic in India

Bharti Airtel joins hands with the HTC to release India’s first Android powered phone, the HTC Magic. The debut of the Android platform in India will now boost innovation development and deployment of mobile applications in an ‘open ecosystem’.

The Android platform provides a faster market capability and also serves better offerings for all Airtel users. Simultaneously it also creates commercial viability for small developers/entrepreneurs. The HTC Magic is a tablet-style device with a slick and compact design for a smartphone. It claims to grant a supreme mobile internet and multimedia experience.

An operating system, middleware and key mobile applications are a complete set of software for mobile devices that have been ingrained in the Android platform. Fathered and nurtured by the open alliance, a group of 47 technology and mobile companies, Android claims to bring internet-style innovation and openness to mobile phones. It, thus, enables developers to create mobile applications to maximize the functionalities of the mobile phone.

A broad spectrum of applications and services is provided since the Android refuses to distinguish between the phone’s core applications and third party applications. The device is built with outlook synchronization, Smart Dialler and an onscreen keyboard with predictive text.

Airtel users can also avail many utility based applications such as Portfolio Manager, which is a mobile client application to grant the mass a secured and user friendly service platform. Its main aim is to give a lift to the investors in the Indian share market to manage their portfolio in a handsome fashion. A special offer prevalent only for HTC Magic users is a 3 months subscription waiver.

Another application is the Hello Tunes manager that all users will utilize to subscribe to, look for, buy and share hello tunes/albums. Recommendations from friends and hello tune ratings can also be sent or received. Airtel offers HTC Magic users a month of Free Hello tunes.
The Mobshare application is to enable phone picture sharing. It grants immediate, controlled and organized sharing and browsing of mobile pictures shared or unshared.

The Weather channel application gives a detailed weather forecast of the current day and the following six days. Any user can receive a forecast for the location they are in, their marked favorite location or any other location chosen location. The In-mobile search application allows the user to search for contacts, image and video files from a single interface, starting with an entered query string. Viewing images or playing audio/video files is simplified without the use of external applications.

The city search application integrates both location and data call technology it provides information on the hottest events across the city. An appropriate list of options is given for any location review under a select category. The application gives detailed information for any selected option. Users can also alternatively call their selected option or receive information via SMS.

The HTC Magic claims to provide an unmatched mobile internet experience. With a trackball with zoom in/out functions it is also armed with fit-the-width rendering and auto screen rotation for simplified internet browsing and navigation. The device provides flexibility with a 3.2” HVGA touch screen display and a 3.2 mega-pixel camera. The SmartDialler allows calling others in the user’s preferred fashion either by the number or initial alphabets of the contact.

Typing is faster and simpler with the versatile keyboard that aids in choosing a favorite typing style and with the predictive text completion. Server synchronization for e-mail, calendar and contacts is permitted with Microsoft Exchange.

The HTC Magic’s estimated price is Rs 29,000 and will retail at Airtel Relationship centers across 17 cities: Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Coimbatore, Cochin, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar and Patna.
