Airtel 16 MBps Broadband service introduced in India

Airtel has announced the launch of its new 16 MBps Broadband offering in selective cities in India.

Touted as the fastest wireline broadband on DSL in the country, the service is available via tariff plans of Rs. 2999 and Rs. 4999, dubbed as the Speed Combo 2999 and Speed Combo 4999 respectively.

As of now, the 16 MBps broadband will be available in India only in the cities of Delhi NCR, Chennai and Bangalore and later to additional cities of Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai and Kolkatta.

K. Srinivas, Joint President, Telemedia Services, Bharti Airtel announced the launch and said, “Airtel has constantly strived to innovate and deliver high quality products to its broadband customers. We are the leading private broadband service provider in the country and pioneered 8 Mbps broadband. It gives us great pleasure now to be able to introduce the fastest, wired broadband service on DSL. We will be able to offer 16 Mbps broadband to 70% of the households in the 3 cities of Delhi NCR, Chennai and Bangalore.”

The Speed Combo 2999 will fetch the subscribers 16 MBps of broadband speed with monthly data transfer limit of 20 GB along with a fixed line connection.

The Speed Combo 4999 will bring in the service at the same speed with a monthly data transfer limit of 50 GB with a fixed line connection.

This offering of Airtel will be served via the company’s Carrier Ethernet Network consisting of the fiber backbone and last mile delivery on copper using ADSL2+ technology.
