Those on a lookout for a high-end tablet with comparable specs to the new iPad could opt for the $449.99 Acer Iconia Tab A700. Here’s why – not only does it boast of a full HD display, but also packs in a quad core processor and much more for a relatively cheaper price tag.

The Android-powered Ice Cream Sandwich slate dons a 10.1-inch full HD 1080p display proffering a 10-point touch input and a 16:10 aspect ratio, on the front. Complementing the screen is a 4-Plus-1 quad core Tegra 3 SOC from Nvidia for the performance-minded, while 1GB of RAM provides a boost for multitasking. 32GB of flash storage comes integrated into the Acer Iconia Tab A700 and users can even expand the memory up to an additional 64GB through support for an external microSD card.

“Consumers have embraced their tablets as a mobile hub for their daily lives, and the full HD display on the Acer A700 will give customers a fresh new perspective on the apps, games and digital media they enjoy,” commented Paul Tayar, director of product marketing for connected devices, Acer America. “Customers looking for a no-compromise tablet will get the features and performance they want in the new Acer A700.”

On the entertainment front, a 5MP AF rear-facing camera enables HD recording and the ability to snap up images at the same time. The 1MP fixed-focused secondary snapper can be used for live face-to-face conferencing. A built-in micro-HDMI port helps attach the tablet to an external display, while the Dolby Mobile 3 attribute aims to deliver a rich audio experience through 5.1-channel surround sound. In terms of dimensions, the device measures 10.23 x 6.89 x 0.43 inches and is bundled with a 9800mAh battery which offers up to 10.5 hours of video playback or around 8 hours of web browsing.

The Acer Iconia Tab A700 price sums up to $449.99, as noted earlier. The 10.1-inch slate is up for pre-order in the US and Canada and it will be available through the company’s online store as well as retailers. The portfolio case for the tablet in question will retail for $39.99.
