A History of Gaming

From Pac-man to Sonic, Pong to PlayStation, the history of video games and gaming culture is both vast and impressive. Whether you are part of the younger generation of gamers or a veteran of the gaming world, we all have fond memories of gaming.

There has been a number of highlights over the years including computer training and instructional programs in the 1950s leading the way to table tennis – like pong, the arcade craze of the 1970s and the introduction of the first home console – the Magnavox Odyssey.

Fast forward to today and the gaming industry is booming on a worldwide scale. The level of technology being used in modern day PCs and consoles is giving people the opportunity to play games of such calibre that they often find themselves on the borderline of realism.

With the development of virtual reality (VR) now giving millions of people the chance to enter into worlds that they could only ever dream of and the esports scene growing rapidly along with live streaming platforms – video games have come such a long way, so much so that we often forget just how many huge milestones have been achieved in the 40-plus years that they have been around.
