The price in India of the 4th gen iPad with Retina display has been made known by Apple, and the device is now officially up for sale in the country. Announced in October along with the iPad mini and the Macbook Pro, this is the latest iPad and is a slightly updated version of the third generation model.
The device runs on Apple’s new A6X chip with a dual core processor and quad core graphics. Although this is a little more power-hungry than the older A5 chip, it is said to deliver smoother and faster performance.
The new iPad also sports a 9.7-inch IPS panel with multi-touch, while it displays images and video at a much higher 2048 x 1536 resolution, which for its screen size comes to 264ppi. An oleo-phobic coating is present to prevent fingerprints.
Just like the iPad mini which we saw yesterday, the 4th gen iPad with Retina display for India also comes in Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + Cellular variants. It also comes in storage capacity choices including 16GB, 32G and 64GB, taking the total number of options that customers can choose from to six models.
In terms of photo and video capture, it has a 5MP iSight camera with face detection and auto focus on the back panel which can be used for recording videos in 1080p. The tap to focus feature has also been included, and photo and video geo-tagging is supported. Besides, there is a 1.2MP front-facing HD webcam for FaceTime chats.
The Wi-Fi-only model comes with 802.11a/b/g/n wireless connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0 and a digital compass, while the Wi-Fi + Cellular variant adds operator network connectivity as well as A-GPS with GLONASS. In terms of weight, the former comes in a 652g package, with the latter a mere 10 grams heavier.
In India, the Wi-Fi-only model of the 4th gen iPad with Retina display sells for Rs. 31,900 for the 16GB version, Rs. 37,900 for the 32GB model and Rs. 43,900 for the 64GB variant. The Wi-Fi + Cellular model on the other hand, is available at Rs. 39,900 for the 16GB version, Rs. 45,900 for 32GB of storage and Rs. 51,900 for the one with 64GB capacity.
