Owners of the Google Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus Player who have been experiencing washed-out colors in their devices for months will finally get some relief. The issue has been recognized by the company and a solution is on its way.
The problem has been caused by a bug in Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow software which only seems to occur when watching videos through the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus Player. It’s resulted in black colors being rendered in grayish tones while other colors appear lighter than usual.
Google recently updated the priority level of fixing the bug from high to low. This means a fix is probably going to arrive soon. As per the tech giant, the problem is widespread among Nexus Player devices. Any user who has upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is likely to be facing this concern.
Google also clarified that while the washed-out problem being faced was similar for the Nexus Player and its phone counterparts, the underlying cause of the issue was different. The bug is less common among the Nexus 6P and 5X and there’s no certain way of finding out who is more likely to be affected by it.
Phandroid predicts the solution for the error could be sent out by Google within a month or sooner. The site is making this assumption based on the fact that the company has already started testing fixes for the problem and expects it to be rolled in the next scheduled maintenance update.
Unfortunately, there’s no other workaround for the bug. Users of the Google Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus Player will just have to wait it out till the upgrade arrives.
