Apple’s 2018 iPhone series is set to introduce a number of new features, but perhaps one of the biggest changes is the debut of dual-SIM support. Plenty of reports have hinted at this in the past and there’s now some promotional material making the rounds in China which confirms the addition.

A Weibo tipster posted the above image recently. It’s by network operator China Telecom and shows an iPhone with a pair of SIM card slots emerging from its body. The device looks pretty generic, so it’s probably not an official image of the iPhone XC, iPhone XS, or iPhone XS Max/Plus.

Which iPhone Will Get Dual-SIM Support?

That poses a bit of a problem since it’s not clear which of the three iPhones will support two SIM cards at the same time. The text doesn’t offer any hints either, talking about how “The new iPhone is on the market. Double card, full network. You’re late, I’ve been waiting. Dual card, dual network, dual 4G.”

Going by speculation so far, Apple will sell this dual-SIM variant only in China. The rest of the world will likely get a regular single-SIM card slot and a virtual eSIM option. China doesn’t allow digital Apple SIMs to operate in the country, hence the special status.

Apple SIMs have been around in iPads for years, allowing the tablets to gain cellular connectivity. They’re supported in various countries around the world including the US, UK, and India. Enabling it allows you to connect to networks depending on your location, making it easy to travel from place to place without having to insert a new SIM card every time.

Rumor has it that the 6.1-inch iPhone XC and 6.5-inch iPhone XS Plus/Max will support dual SIMs. Nobody knows why the 5.8-inch iPhone XS would be left out in this scenario. Apple will probably charge more for these dual-SIM variants, so keep your wallets ready.
