Wi-Fi Ipods to come out soon?

The iPod may go wireless. Apple has revealed plans to launch new iPods that feature Wi-Fi capability. As of now, there are not many details, but DigiTimes has reported this snippet of news. It’s bound to be huge.

According to the report by DigiTimes, Apple will release its new generation of iPods with Wi-Fi in the second half of 2007. Apparently, Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) will produce the Wi-Fi modules, while Foxconn will perform as the OEM system assembler.

It is expected that USI will begin shipments later in April 2007, while Foxconn may begin to do so in the third quarter of 2007. However, there is no information on the pricing and further details of the Wi-Fi iPod.

Microsoft’s Zune, which was slated to be an iPod “killer”, does have Wi-Fi capabilities. Soon after Zune was launched, Singapore-based Creative and SanDisk showcased their Wi-Fi-portable music players. What’s more, Samsung and Sony are also planning to offer a player on the same lines. With Microsoft’s Zune, you can share music with other Zune users in the nearby area.

So, you can definitely expect Apple to get on the Wi-Fi bandwagon as well. But, a note of caution, due to the addition of Wi-Fi capabilities, the battery life of the portable music player does tend to wear off earlier.

Whether this is a rmour or not, we will surely know soon. Any which ways, we are definitely awaiting the Wi-Fi iPod.
