Apple’s Wi-Fi related Patent Applications point to Wireless Sharing in iPods and iPhones in the Near Future

Could a Wi-Fi enabled iPod become a reality? Well, the US Patent and trademark Office has revealed that Apple’s lawyers have submitted a number of new patent applications connected with new technologies for iPods, Web pages as well as mice.
This news was first reported by Macsimum News yesterday. Out of all the patent applications that were supposedly filed by Apple months ago, the most intriguing one is definitely the technology that will allow an iPod or iPhone for that matter to “talk” to neighboring devices through a wireless network.
This Wi-Fi related patent that Apple seemingly applied for sounds very similar to what Microsoft has already planned out for its Zune music player.
Apple newly launched iPhone already comes with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. However, as of now, it’s not really possible to swap songs over a wireless network with another iPhone user.
The iPhone must be connected directly with its host computer to download songs and update data.
Incidentally, around this time last year, Apple filed for several patents that ultimately pointed out to the release of the iPhone.
Things are looking good in the Wi-Fi arena. In April this year, we had reported about Wi-Fi iPods that were manufactured by USI and Foxconn slated to be out by Q2 2007. Maybe now, once Apple gets this technology patented, such Wi-Fi devices will see the light of the day.
