Tata Indicom logo Tata Indicom is intending to bring a mobile broadcast to India by the end of 2006. Through the mobile broadcast, mobile phone users can access their favourite programmes live, even while they are on a move.

Mobile TV Network Tata Indicom is exploring the logistics of introducing mobile broadcast in India. Tata expects to change the TV viewing habits to mobile users, as DMB-T has done in Korea. The Digital Mobile Broadcasting-Terrestial or DMB-T, which is running in Korea, at the moment, has its trials on in the US and Europe.

For the mobile broadcast in India, Tata Indicom is looking at video streaming at 25 frames per sec. The existing video streaming is seven frames per sec, which would require us to set up a very high-capacity delivery system.

While the people in India can be excited about soon getting to listen to their favourite music, catching-up on latest news and following their sports team, while on the move… DMBT users in Europe can be all geared with the news of getting to see Football World Cup live there.

Tata Indiacom & VSNL have a WiMAX network now in operation. Perhaps we will see some of the broadcast applications of WiMAX demonstrated?
Mobile WiMAX is now attracting the greatest attention owing to its multicast capability and QoS.With spring slated to launch its XOHM services in late 2007, all eyes are on WiMAX operators and what they take out of their duffel bags?
