Docking Station

It has been announced that the Razer Edge, in both standard and pro versions, will be open to pre-order starting on March 1, 2013, and we already know what kind of price tag it will carry. It was created using input from PC gamers and grabbed practically everyone’s attention when it was showcased at this year’s CES.

Unlike the pro version, the Edge features a dual core Intel Core i5 processor and dual graphics solutions with Nvidia GeForce GT640M LE (1GB of DDR3 memory) and Intel HD4000 GPUs. It will have 4GB of DDR3 RAM and gets a 64GB SSD packed in for storage needs. The Pro meanwhile has a Core i7 CPU with 8GB of RAM and 2GB of memory for the Nvidia graphics card. Users will have a choice between a 128GB and a 256GB SSD.

Both variants run on the Windows 8 platform and have a 10.1-inch multi-touch IPS display offering up visuals at a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Additionally, they also have Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi capabilities, a front-facing 2MP HD webcam, Dolby Home Theater v4, HDMI output, one USB 3.0 port and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The device’s appeal is that it can be used as a tablet, a gaming console and also as a full-blown PC. Championing this cause are several accessories that help it transform from one of its avatars into another. A gamepad controller cradles the tablet, turning it into a mobile gaming solution. Its d-pad and action buttons are backlit, while there are also dual analog sticks for precision in the game. It will be available for purchase at $249.99.

Mobile Gaming

Then there is a keyboard dock, converting the device into a notebook-style computer which makes typing easier. It is scheduled to be launched in Q3 of 2013, and with an optional extended battery, it can even be used to play games in a more traditional manner. The last accessory is the docking station, with which the slab can change into a home console. It can connect to a larger screen and is compatible with multiple game controllers. The docking station will be made available for $99.99.

Home Console

The Razer Edge only ships to the US and Canada and those who pre-order can expect the tablet delivered later in the month. And while the standard variant will be positioned at $999, the pro version comes at $1,299.99 or $1,449.99, depending on the choice of internal storage.
