Data management and security is a task that all organizations, large or small are burdened with. BakBone Software has extended their NetVault line of data management solutions with Netvault: Backup 8.5 and NetVault: SmartDisk engineered around their proprietary Open Data Protection Platform.
Apart from SmartDisk, NetVault: Backup 8.5 boasts of a newly developed Hyper-V Plugin, extended platform support and enhanced security elements. The security system incorporates AES-256 and CAST-256 encryption algorithms and gives the option of encrypting original or secondary copies of stored data. Users are equipped to control encrypted and unencrypted data by job-level encryption flexibility rendered by the system. Block-based deduplication allows encrypted and duplicated non-encrypted data to be stored in a single NetVault: SmartDisk.
“We are thrilled to introduce the first product based on BakBone’s new Open Data Protection Platform. Unlike other data protection solutions, BakBone has built intelligence into one platform that extends the investment of users’ data protection environments with the ultimate goal of providing affordable and long-term disk-based storage,” enthused Andrew Martin, VP of APAC, BakBone Software.
The newly developed Hyper-V Plugin delivers online protection to Windows virtual machines operating VSS aware applications. It enables centralized backup and recovery of physical as also virtual environments from a solitary console. Additionally, the plugin is capable of carrying out Windows guest OS file-level backups for speedy file-level recovery as well as image-level backups for disaster recovery. NetVault: Bare Metal Recovery allows for bare metal recovery to the NetVault: Backup Server for disaster recovery requirements.
“Our future roadmap for BakBone’s Open Data Protection Platform will allow customers to store and deduplicate data from many different sources, including other data protection vendors. This gives customers the opportunity to consolidate their data protection solutions using the same deduplication solution, thereby reducing costs and providing more flexibility with regard to vendors,” added Martin.
BakBone’s NetVault: Backup is operable with Windows 2008 R2, Windows 7, Mac OS X Snow Leopard and a few Linux systems too. The company has not come out with pricing details for their NetVault: Backup 8.5 and NetVault: SmartDisk data management solutions as yet.
