Canonical releases Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition
On Thursday, Canonical shipped the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition for free download.
Ubuntu 8.04 Long Term Support (LTS) Server Edition has now come up with the new attributes adding performance, stability and security. Canonical further has announced that Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition is certified on several high performance, energy efficient Sun x64 server platforms, including the Sun Fire X2100 M2, X2200 M2 and Sun Fire X4150 servers.
Besides, an extended maintenance period to five years is one of the key features of the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition. This warranty period delivers security updates and maintenance for five years.

Ubuntu 8.04 LTS is at the centre of a growing ecosystem of applications that serve businesses of all sizes extremely well. The new and updated features available with the LTS release are - enhanced security with integrated AppArmor policies and increased kernel hardening, and improved range of storage capabilities including iSCSI and DRBD. Moreover, it boasts over 500 maintained and supported server packages, together with access to more than 20,000 additional components built for 8.04 LTS.
Users can protect their internet facing servers with the help of integrated host firewalling.
Active Directory integration as standard, provided by LikeWise Open, kernel improvements to optimize resources use when under virtualization are the few other features of the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition.
Applications and the core system are supported by Canonical’s Global Support Services. The Ubuntu management service, Landscape, provides enhancement security, maintenance and application management.
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server Edition will be available for download from www.ubuntu.com/download.
