iTunes on Yahoo! Japan Music Home Page

Yahoo Japan has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Apple to allow users to download songs from Apple’s iTunes Store.

Apple’s iTunes Store link is featured very prominently on the Yahoo Japan Music home page, with buttons that link to the appropriate iTunes Store page within the iTunes application.

Yahoo Japan happens to be the most popular portal among home users in the country. Previously, the portal featured downloads from Mora, a Sony-affiliated online music service. While access to Mora is still available, iTunes has now become the default provider.

Users can also restore Mora as their default music store by logging into their Yahoo Japan accounts, and setting a preference.

As of now, financial details of the deal have not been released, but Yahoo Japan has already begun hosting the iTunes Music Store.

This collaboration could result in a better position for Apple, as Yahoo! Is Japan’s top used portal, credited with around 40 million users (84% of Japan’s Internet users).
