AOL has released an upgraded version of its AIM Triton service, called the AIM Triton 1.5 Preview Edition. It is available for free download on AIM.com, the new features incorporated in the updated software are listed below:

- Easy upgradation to the AIM Phoneline Unlimited service, a complete, PC-based phone service with enhanced e911 services that lets users enjoy calls with friends and family in the U.S., Canada, and more than 30 international destinations for one low fixed monthly fee.

- Convenient access to the new AIM Phoneline service, offering AIM users a free local phone number for unlimited inbound calling, call screening and 24×7 voicemail.

- An AOL Video module at the base of the Buddy List feature that offers users several video-on-demand categories, including Weird & Wacky and What’s Hot on TV.

- A new AIM Location plugin (presently in beta phase) for the AIM Triton service that lets users place themselves on a MapQuest Map in relation to friends on their Buddy List feature who are also using the plugin. This ‘mash-up’ of the AIM and MapQuest services can also be downloaded from AIM.com.

- Integration with the beta version of AOL’s AIM Pages service through a new ‘Buddy Updates’ feature that lets users ’subscribe’ to friends, and receive alerts on their Buddy List feature when changes are made to those friends’ AIM Pages profiles.

- New AIM Gadgets for the AIM Triton service that are packed into a single download to provide users with additional functionality. AIM Gadgets include IM logging; the ability to convert typed phone numbers into clickable links that launch voice calls; the ability to broadcast a single IM to a group of buddies; the ability to change Away Messages from a mobile phone and more. AIM Gadgets can be downloaded from AIM.com.
