Microsoft buys iView, British Software maker

Microsoft and iView Logos British photo organization software maker, iView announced on Monday that their company has been bought over by Redmond-based company Microsoft. Company founder, Yan Calotychos said the acquisition would make it possible for iView to enhance its flagship MediaPro product and at the same time strengthen customer service and support.

iView MediaPro allows photographers and other creative professionals to manage and catalogue their works through a searchable repository. The iView MediaPro software supports more than 100 file formats for images, audios, video and other digital assets.

Originally, iView was built for the Mac, but is now also available for Windows. iView plans to continue to develop its products for both platforms( Mac and Windows).

“In my view, this Microsoft acquisition affords us an unprecedented opportunity to be even more responsive to a thriving market and ensure that iView MediaPro continues to perform to its full potential,” company founder Yan Calotychos said in an open letter to customers. Calotychos emphasized that even as Microsoft takes over the product, support for Mac OS X would remain. He also said that the company would provide more details in future announcements.

The iView development team and Yan Calotychos will be joining Microsoft.
