Google Logo From today onwards, Google is offering a free package of programs for businesses, universities and other organizations called Google Apps for Your Domain. With this new package offered by Google, workers will be able to send e-mails with Gmail, but messages will carry their company’s domain name. Besides, the package also includes Google’s online calendar, instant-messaging service, and Page Creator, which is a Web page builder.

Dave Girouard, VP and General Manager of Google Enterprise, a division of Google Inc. says, that the applications are exactly what you would experience as a consumer if you use them.

The free edition of Apps for your Domain is very much like Google’s main site and is supported by ads. By the end of this year, Google also plans to launch a paid version that will offer more storage, some degree of support and most likely will not be supported by ads. The price for this edition has not been set.

With the release of Apps for Your Domain, Google has moved closer into what has conventionally been turf occupied by Microsoft Corp. Now with e-mail, Google seems to be targeting Microsoft’s Outlook and Exchange, although the Search engine Giant plays down any such motives.
