Microsoft Genuine Software logo Microsoft is shipping a free downloadable tool that enablers users running Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Pro or Windows Media Center Edition to generate a private folder where they can store sensitive files.

Called Private Folder 1.0, the utility allows a user to create a folder called “My Private Folder,” which is then password protected. However the tool allows users to create only a single folder.

Additionally, in order to download Private Folder 1.0, users need to pass the Windows Genuine Advantage validation test which is true for most free Microsoft software.

“It’s a useful tool for you to protect your private data when your friends, colleagues, kids or other people share your PC or account,” said Microsoft.

The software does not come with product support. You can authorise your copy of Windows and get the free download.
