Lockheed Martin is intending to use a distribution of Linux for its United States Army Theater High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) program.

RedHawk Linux, which is a Concurrent distro, will be used to provide real-time Linux simulation testing of strategic missile defence subsystems.

Concurrent claims that it was chosen owing to the fact that only Redhawk Linux was able to guarantee the high frame rates required in simulations without frame overruns. This in other words meant that you get a high quality of system test.

The iHawk systems are power-driven by either eight Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron processors and up to 64 GB of memory in rack mount and tower enclosures.
