Trend Micro logo After launching an array of products, Trend Micro Inc., provider of network antivirus and content security software and services, unveiled the new version of Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange, version 8.0, on Monday. The Tokyo-based company’s latest release supports Exchange Server 2007 and earlier versions, continuing to offer businesses proven protection against a huge number of email-borne threats including spam, phishing and viruses, plus unsuitable content. The solution now also incorporates technology to protect against zero-day attacks, image spam, and for advanced web-threat security it includes dedicated anti-spyware as well.

Protection at the mail server plays a significant role within layered email security, inspecting internal communications and supplementing perimeter defenses. In 1997, Trend Micro initiated the first server-based, email virus protection with the launch of ScanMail, which has since been recognized by organizations across the world as a proven, trusted security solution. This latest version of ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange provides a number of new benefits to customers.

ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 8.0 includes improved protection and continued performance optimizations. Furthermore, the product’s integration to the Microsoft infrastructure has been expanded, helping lessen mail server impact and management. As a result, businesses receive proven mail server security that can protect critical business communications with few ongoing costs.

“Organizations of all sizes, including the most-demanding enterprises, trust ScanMail for Exchange for proven content-security and messaging protection with little ongoing administration. With the recent release of Exchange Server 2007, and its new built-in features, Trend Micro is able to deliver an even higher performing, tighter integrated and easier to manage mail server security solution,” said Max Cheng, general manager Trend Micro enterprise business operations.

Apart from continuing its protection of earlier versions of Exchange, Trend Micro has taken advantage of the new security features within Exchange Server 2007 to deliver an enhanced, dedicated security solution to its customers. For instance, ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 8.0 provides native x64 bit support, plus full support for the Microsoft Intelligent Message Filter (IMF) and high availability clusters. The latest version also integrates with Microsoft Operations Manager (MoM) and Microsoft Outlook junkmail folder for even easier management and administration. And the new antivirus stamp in Exchange Server 2007 makes it possible for Trend Micro to provide incremental scanning for improved efficiency.

Content-security threats are becoming more evasive, combining multiple techniques, in an attempt to acquire valuable data and information for monetary gain. In order to remain protected against such insidious threats, an in-depth multi-layered approach to security, based on proven technologies is recommended. Messaging security at the gateway or in-the-cloud helps stop inbound threats as early as possible. Mail server security extends inspection throughout the email infrastructure, including the mail store. The Trend Micro Enterprise Protection Strategy weaves together ScanMail with other solutions, providing a deeply layered defense against complex attacks involving both email and the Web.

Trend Micro ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 8.0 will hit shelves in North America in April 2007 with an SPR of $22.90/user for 2001 users.
